Innovative Programs for Improving Student Achievement and Teacher Effectiveness

Focused Targeted Skill Building

We offer teacher, student, parent, special service and school staff programs for improving at risk student achievement and behavior.  Our programs break critical skills into easy to learn, remember and use, 3 to 7 mnemonic steps. Students strengthen their learning, motivation, achievement and behavior skills. Teachers improve their instruction effectiveness, student engagement, inclusion and classroom management skills.   Our programs come in downloadable pdf training manual, weekly teacher email curriculum, video training modules and/or on site training - service provision formats.

Schools Are Facing Tough Challenges

The Problem:

Children have changed.  Teachers describe students as more disruptive, distracted, under motivated and unavailable for learning than ever before.  Children today think, feel, communicate and learn differently than children of the past.  Students with disruptive behavior, poor motivation, learning difficulties and/or ADHD interfere with classroom learning.

The Cause:

We are undertaking an experiment in child rearing.  Never before in history have children been raised with so much exposure to technology and media.  An average child watches 5 to 7 hours of TV, video and/or computer screens each day.  A growing body of research suggests that this level of audio visual stimulation is having a negative effect on a child's capacity for learning.  Children are exposed to massive doses of colors, lights, explosions, fights, sarcasm, Smart Alec role models, imaginary beings, animation and violence.  School work in comparison is boring.  TV and video screen watching has a hypnotic effect on the mind.  Children often get into a mesmerized, passive mental state when sitting in front of an electronic screen.  School work on the other hand, requires active mental processing.  For many children listening, concentrating, memorizing, test taking, reading, understanding and learning are an uncomfortable strain on the brain.  This experiment in child rearing comes at a time when schools are demanding that children learn harder and harder material in earlier and earlier grades. Technological over stimulation, family problems, negative TV role models, emotional difficulties and hyper activity levels have created a weakening of the key skills that children need for academic success.

The Solution

The Solution is simple.  Building key skills helps children achieve and succeed.  When we help children build the core skills they need to be successful we ignite motivation.  There is no motivation like success.  Many children do not know how to be successful and perform under their potential or give up on school.  Targeted, step by step, focused skill building gives children the tools they need to achieve.  Teaching students how to learn works wonders and improves test taking and academic success.

Building Essential Learning Skills

There are a handful of essential skills that create a foundation for success.  When the learning of these skills is haphazard, not prioritized or left to chance, children experience frustration and difficulties when they try to learn.

Learning How to Learn is Key

Schools do not always teach students how to learn.  Schools often teach students what to learn and hope that this will lead to students learning how to learn.  This strategy works for many students.  This strategy, however, does not work for all students.  Many children get distracted and do not know how to get back on task.  Many students are disorganized and do not know how to keep track of their assignments and what to do, when.  When reading the minds of many students wander and they do not know how to focus or improve their comprehension.  Many students attend excessively to small inconsequential things and miss what is most important in what they are hearing or learning.  Many students get frustrated when they are learning and do not know how to calm themselves down to overcome the stress of feeling 'stupid'.  Many students get nervous when taking a test and do not know how to relax to concentrate better.  Many students have poor memorization skills and they do not know easy to use memorization tricks.  The list goes on and on.  Our programs focus students on building the key learning skills that they need to be successful in school and in life.
